Who We Are
Wellspring Community Church is a welcoming and affirming Christian faith community grounded in progressive theology. The community at Wellspring provides an opportunity for those who attend to inquire, explore and name their faith journeys. To do this, we take time to worship, pray, and respond to the scripture reading for the day. Our intent in being a faith community is not to be “right” about God, but to seek to live in right relationship with God, our neighbors and our world. For Wellspring, being inclusive is a “Gospel” issue. It is important that all who come to share the faith journey are included through the language and ritual of worship on a Sunday morning.
We invite you to come and join us as we both celebrate and wrestle with the meaning of our faith.
AT WELLSPRING WE VALUE QUESTIONS.
Wellspring Community Church is a faith community that has been reaching out to other progressive Christians for nearly 30 years. We believe in the historical Jesus who came to show people the way to God through love, forgiveness, and inclusion. We believe faith is not a doctrine but a transformative experience that shapes the lens by which we see and live our lives. The teachings of Jesus and questions relevant to our current realities are integral to the culture of Wellspring.
WE ARE A CHURCH WITHOUT REAL ESTATE.
For Wellspring, this means we desire to create a community that is fluid. We meet on Sunday mornings to worship; to share our stories, renew our hope and vision for life and then to live into our understanding of faith in the community at large.
There is no building program; our by-laws provide that we will not own real estate. We choose to put our resources of time and money into action, rather than maintaining a building. We meet in a comfortable and inviting rented space, the Thoreau Center, where we can adapt our space as needed.
Our Mission Statement
Wellspring Community Church is a diverse and inclusive gathering of people whose motivation is based on Christian traditions, beliefs, and principles and whose mission is:
To create a space where all feel safe and welcome
To name, nurture, and celebrate that spirituality found in each of our unique individual and collective stories
To envision and create possibilities for hope and renewal in our lives and in the local and world communities in which we live
To find inspiration and guidance from the Holy Spirit and Scriptures for experiencing life and becoming “sound and whole”
To remain flexible and responsive to our members and larger community, we intentionally direct our resources toward service and personal growth, rather than to the purchase and maintenance of property and real estate
